Mixed Diglossini, Apr. 7, 1965, II

IV. I think, however, I know one way in which interspecific competition is controlled.

[[margin]] Bari Glor BQ XCC [[/margin]]
The Erythrina in which the Bari and Glor fed this afternoon appeared to be past the peak of flowering. It had relatively few flowers and a fair amount of foliage. (The Erythrinas as with most flowers now have almost no leaves.) Interestingly enough, this particular Eryhthrina was not visited by BQ's, or XCC's, although both species were in the neighborhood. This probably is significant. It will be remembered that the ♀ Bari seemed to visit "my" Erythrina near the hotel relatively frequently yesterday, while the BQ's and XCC's seemed to visit the tree less frequently yesterday than on previous days.

[[margin]] Gen [[/margin]]
This would suggest that BQ's and XCC's like their Erythrina blossoms "fresh", while Diglossa spp. like them slightly "over-ripe"
