[[circled]] 86 [[/circled]] Mixed Deglossini, Apr. 12, 1965, II [] BQ [] 6:54. Juv. BQ visits Erythrina. Feeding on flowers. Poking at their bases. [] BQ [] Then I see that there is a BQ nest on the opposite side of the Erythrina. In Spanish Moss. 20 ft above ground. Visited by an adult from time to time. All BQ songs stopped 7:00 am. Twice this morning, I have seen a BT apparently feeding by poking bill into base clusters Erythrina flowers. [] BQ [] There are at least 3 BQ's in this immediate area. One with nest. Another adult. And the juv. [] gen BQ [] 7:06 House Wren singing in M area. Shuts up. Flies away. Less than a minute later, M begins to sing. He definitely had not been singing while the wren was vocal. Interesting that the House Wren and BQ seem to be inhibiting one another's songs. As I remember, the House Wren does not have this relationship with Diglossa spp. Every once in a while this morning, I have seen single Taugaras around (both III and IV). Silent and definitely alone. [] BQ [] 7:13 M is beginning to utter doublet songs. "Ta zee zee zee zee zee zraaa ta zee zee zee zee" sort of thing. Sometimes "central" zraaa becomes real flourish "zraayoo" or "zreeyoo." M still alone while uttering doublets. [] XCC BQ [] 7:20 Watching another Erythrina, which seems a little "fresher". XCC feeding on flowers. Then this XCC flies off. Another XCC flies in and begins to feed. This bird flies away just as a BQ comes in. Apparently definitely retreating before BQ. All birds silent. [] BQ [] 7:30. At least 1 BQ feeds in this tree for some time. NOD.
