Mixed Diglossini, Aug 30, 1965, III 105

[[margin]] LCH [[/margin]] the same species of largely cinnamon hummingbird. Latter definitely is aggressor. The two birds fly off in different directions.

COMMENT: Obviously this site is inhabited, continuously or intermittently, by 2 Coers, 2 Cys, 2 glors, at least 1 Scan and at least 8 largely cinnamon hummingbird ("LCH"). Probably other species of hummingbirds as well. And the territories of all species are at least partly overlapping.

[[margin]] gen [[/margin]]
All the species of Diglonia have ranged 2-15 ft up in the scrub here (which might be called "record growth AS"). But the two blue species are more often relatively higher than the Glors. The Scan seems to have the same range of elevations as the Diglonias. Probably relatively frequently low - like the Glors.

Obviously the species here also are "careless" about approaching one another!!! This trait seems to be characteristic of the whole region!!!

[[margin]] gen [[/margin]]
And the birds here seem to be rather more overtly aggressive to one another than the birds on Pico Espejo. Altho probably less so than the birds in Merida [[?]]

NOTE: The vegetation around this bare slide area, where all the birds have been seen, is moderately thick.

[[margin]] Coer [[/margin]]
7:45 am The Coers seen to have left this area long ago. Have they gone to join mixed flock???

[[margin]] LCH Glor [[/margin]]
7:58. See a single LCH swoop at Glor. Both birds retreat. Glor does not retreat. LCH flies off.

Everything quiet. Sun shining brightly 8:00 am.

As far as I can tell, all the different species of nectarivorous birds here are feeding on the same species of flowers, at least occasionally. Competition must be intense!!!
