Mixed Diglossini, Sept, 4, 1965, III.

[[left( margin]] Cy 15 114 Laf []
Cy √√√√(5) perched 6 ft up on tree fern only 20 ft from the Laf feeding on flowers. The two birds are in plain view of one another; but apparently do not react to one another!!!!

[] Laf Cy []
Then nearby Laf Song stops. And then Cy begins to Sing. Typical phrases with "Tsit" Intro Notes. Then Laf Songs start again. But Cy continues. And then the Songs of the 2 species continue for a long time, overlapping apparently completely at random. Dozens of complete overlaps!!!

At same time, lots of other birds appear in same area scrub Including at least 2 PL's √√ (4), 1 Yellowbelly √(6), 3 Little Striped √√√ (7) Flycatchers, and 1 Synallavis √(8) (apparently All-rufous species!)

Also at the same time, fighting between Lafs starts again. And now I see that there are at least 4 Lafs √√√√√√ involved!

[] Laf Cy []
All these Lafs and all the other species obviously "attracted" to the "original" Whitebeard-nigrocristatus group!

Disputing among Lafs continues almost steadily for 15-20 minutes. Fast and furious. But no actual physical contacts involved - as far as I could tell. Accompanied by lots of Song. Both typical and accelerated. Also a few "Zaah" type notes. And one individual (apparently aggressive) repeatedly fluffs breast and belly feathers. This fluffing usually or always silent. The fluffing is most extreme "laterally", but certainly includes a "vertical" component as well. Apparently not accompanied by special postures or movements. No "Butterfly."

[] Laf Cy []
At least once, I see single Cy and single Laf only a few inches apart. 1 1/2 ft up in scrub. Laf does not attack; but Cy flies off immediately.

Actually, I am not sure that I saw any definite reaction between Cy and Lafs during this general "brou-ha-ha." But I think that the Cy may have been supplanted, or forced to retreat, several times by
