Mixed Diglossini, Sept. 29, 1962, II.

[] Laf []
Another brief burst Laf songs 6:04. Again obvious how birds stimulate one another.

[] Laf []
Single Laf singing in exact area where Rufs were n.b. yesterday.

Hear an outburst "wren-like" song while 2 Lafs hopping about in bush together. Is this type of song a variant of usual Laf song. Easily could be, with just a little more variety in pitch of notes than is usual.

No trace of Rufs yet 6:15 am. Going to walk about a bit.

[] Laf []
Laf songs gradually becoming more frequent 6:20.

6:40. Get a glimpse ✓ of bird uttering "wren-like" song. Whatever it is, it isn't Diglossa. Definitely not.

6:55am. Slightly above previous area, same environment. Could there be an hybrid ✓18 around here???? Something around here is certainly uttering a song which is more rapid and twittering than usual Laf song. And I see what looks like particularly small Laf, with humeral patch but like Ater in proportions. This small bird uttered "Sreeeeeeeeeee-zeeh" [[wavy lines under e's]] in flight as it flew past me.

This area is also certainly full of undoubted Lafs

[] Laf []
7:00am. 2 Lafs ✓✓20 singing typical songs top of same bush. Only about a foot apart. Facing slightly away from one another, but absolutely no (other) sign of hostility between them. Neighbors also singing at same time. Then one of the 2 birds flies down into shrubbery, followed, immediately, by the other. Again no signs of hostility between them.
[] Laf []

I think this must have been a mated pair; "defending" their territory against neighbors!

Back to first area 7:10. No sight of Rufs. Possibly 1 or 2 Ruf songs (very dubious). Leaving again 7:25.
