Mixed Diglossini, Oct. 23, 1962, VI

Leave 5:45, without seeing anything more of interest

[] Cy []
I have been surprised all day by how frequently the local Cys occur low in open scrub, without any tree cover

October 24, 1962
Mts. above Bogotá

Arrive same place as yesterday 5:13 am. Going up second ravine.

[] Humer []
Hear first Humer song 5:20. With slight sub-terminal R component. Quite like all "Humer" songs heard before, but each phrase a little longer and stronger. Bird sings quite steadily. Obviously fairly high intensity. (This bird is a little below "Laf" area.)

Further up ravine, there seems to be no diglossine song at all 5:35.

[] Cy []
Hear presumed Cy singing 5:50. Long phrases, introduced by "Tsit"s. I don't know whether I have mentioned it before or not, but some of the Cy songs here have slight R components. Sort of sub-terminal. Phrases tend to end "eeeeeyoo".

[] Laf []
It is surprising that I don't hear any "Lafs" here. They were certainly around yesterday.

[] Laf []
Then hear first "Laf" song (brief) 6:01 am. In intervals PR Atlapetes song (wbl type). Could the PR's be "suppressing" Laf song? PR's have been singing a lot this morning.

[] Laf []
"Laf" then sings in some (but not all) pauses of PR song. Then sings more steadily when PR's stop for some time.
