Mixed Diglossini, Aug. 21, 1965, IV. 107

[[margin]] Humer [/margin]]
Back near road. 5:04 pm. Hear a Humer singing. NODWA. Possibly same individual heard singing earlier this afternoon. He does seem to be highly motivated!

[[margin]] Humer [/margin]]
Then see a single Humer √ √ (46) [[a check and number in blue]]. Silent. Alone. 4-6 ft up mixed and bamboo scrub. Then see another, √ (47) [[check and number in blue]] also silent & alone. 2-3 ft up in mixed scrub. Only 50 ft from the other individual. Population of Humers seems to be thick here by road.

Fog coming down 5:15 am.

[[margin]] Humer [/margin]]
More Humer Song in distance 5:18 am. NODWA. All phrases with subterminal R's.

Leaving 5:20 pm

August 22, 1965
Páramo de Guasca

Going to work in usual place here. Arrive 5:28 am. Still quite dark. Cloudy. Not much wind (yet).

SEE TODAY'S NOTES ON GENERAL MIXED FLOCKS.

[[margin]] Gen Laf [[/margin]][
COMMENT: Mutual inhibition of song seems to be "working" very well here this morning. Except between Laf and Atlapetes (all or most of which seem to be PL's). I have heard overlaps between Laf and Atlapetes caused by Atlapetes beginning to sing while Laf is singing, as well as by Lafs beginning to sing when Atlapetes are audible.

[[margin]] Laf [[/margin]]
6:20 am. More Laf song completely overlapping several PL Whistle songs. Again!

[[margin]] Laf [[/margin]]
Incidentally, the overlaps heard so far this morning have involved only one Laf individual but several (two or three) Atlapetes.
