Mixed Diglossini, Aug. 22, 1965, VII.

have been accompanied by Belly-Fluffing.

[] Laf 57 Humer 58 Laf []
8:43 am. Some distance away, but same general locality. See 1 Laf chasing and supplanting another. Both individuals silent. Then the pursued flees across road. Lands low in burned bush (which still has a lot of brown leaves). Then I see that there is a single Humer in same bush. But near the top. 6-8 ft up. Probably at least 8 ft from Laf. Humer hops from perch to perch, uttering R's. But there does not seem to be any other overt hostility between the two bird Laf silent. After about 1 minute, Humer flies away 20-30 ft.

[] Laf Humer []
Obviously, I think, what happened is that one Laf drove the other Laf right to the border of Humer territory. This produced a very slight amount of inter-specific hostility. But I don't think that this incident could be said to indicate that the Laf and Humer territory really overlap here.

[] Cy Humer Laf []
Then the situation is complicated by the sudden appearance of a mixed flock (described elsewhere). Flock includes Cy. And both the Humer and the Laf that had been pursued "escorted" the flock, at least for a few seconds or minutes. Cy probably only a few feet from Humer and/or Laf at various times. But there were no obvious reactions between the Cy and the other species. In the course of the "escorting", the Laf and the Humer ended up in the same bush - the same burnt bush where they both had been earlier. Again there was no obvious overt hostility (attacking or chasing) between the two individuals. [] Laf Humer [] But again they probably were not very close together. And then, within a few few seconds, the flock flew across road - into area where original intra-specific Laf dispute had occurred a few minutes earlier. The Laf escorting the flock continued with the flock into this area. [] Laf []
