Mixed Diglossini, Aug. 25, 1965, III.

Female Bari moves a little bit further inside the Abu bush. But she apparently is not molested by the Scans. She continues to feed as before. Then disappears.

[] Gen []
There is an Andean Sparrow around here who also visits Yellow Abu from time to time. It also puts bill to sepals of flowers. Apparently not tearing off bits of materials. Could it be extricating nectar??? (Viz also Mérida).

[] Bari []
The male and female Bari here certainly are not associating with one another. And it would appear that they also differ in food habits, on the average (i.e. relative frequency with which they visit different types of flowers). Is this characteristic of the species???

Rain getting a little heavier 7:04 am.

[] Scan []
Scans in adjacent trees still giving lots of "chuk" Song 7:08.

[] Scan Humer []
Scan also (still) in Red Abu by Pharmacy Dept. The Humers who defended this area a couple of months ago certainly seem to have disappeared!

[] Scan Bari []
Scan perches 8 ft up in this Red Abu. Utters "chuk" Song. Then I see female Bari in bush with white cup-shaped flowers 15 ft away. Ranging 2-6 ft up. Then Scan flies away, apparently disappears from general area. Almost immediately female Bari flies up into Red Abu, begins to feed on flowers. Still silent. Then Scan comes flying back toward Abu. Female Bari flies away in opposite direction when Scan is still 20-30 ft away. And Scan chases her in hot pursuit! She disappears. Scan comes back to Red Abu. Utters brief "chuk" song. "Triumph."

[] Scan Bari []
So Scan-Bari hostility still exists And female Bari(s), at least, are trying to avoid Scans.

[] Scan Bari []
7:20 am. Scan gone from Red Abu again. Male Bari flies by.

Transcription Notes:
general consensus seems to be "chuck" over "cluck"
