Mixed Diglossini, Aug. 25, 1965, VIII

[] Bari Humer []

Intro Notes. (The "Duh-Duh...." beginnings of some or all phrases are not very conspicuously differentiated from the succeeding notes.) Or like Humer Song phrases without conspicuous R components. (Some of the Bari Songs sounded as is they had a trace of sub-terminal R, when heard close up. But this R was much less conspicuous than the R's in all or most Humer phrases. And often quite un-noticeable when heard from a distance.)

This afternoon going to work in same place as yesterday afternoon arrive 3:10 pm. Partly cloudy. Partly sunny.

[] Cy []

3:27. Near-road. Hear some Cy Songs. With "Tsit" Intro Notes NODWA. Then see single Cy ✓✓ (85) alone. Feeding on insects, off leaves, 3 ft up in second growth scrub.

Lots of fighting among local hummingbirds (species not identified)

See lots more Eriocnemis or Haplophaedia types. All alone. And all apparently same species.

[] Ruf []

What has happened to the Rugs that used to be around here. Is there (presumed) disappearance connected with breeding season???

[] Scan []

Go on up beyond 9300 ft. Rather surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be any Scan Song here this afternoon!

[] EC []

5:00pm. Down by road. Where hostile encounter between green hummingbird and presumed Laf was seen yesterday. There certainly is only one green hummingbird resident in this area. And it is the blue-rumped. It is sitting quietly, exposed, most of the time. Apparently "on lookout" for intruders. Occasionally flies off to feed on tubular red flowers.

[] Cy EC []

5:09pm. Single Cy flies ✓ (86) thru this area, when hummingbird is not present. Then hummingbird comes back. Sits on usual perch. Cy flies
