Mixed Diglossini, Sept. 7, 1965, II

[[footnote 1]] NOTE: Rufs seem to be much "more" vocal than either [[underlined]] utticolor [[/underlined]] fonus or WCC's. Is this because they are more often in diffuse flocks (see discussion elsewhere)???

[[footnote 2]] The Rufs here this morning also uttered occasional "Tut" CN's. Quite [[underlined]] [[undutructive?]] [[/underlined]].

[[footnote 3]] 8:50 am 10,250 ft. See single Laf. Silent & alone. Feeding on tubular orange flowers in "AS" edge pasture. 3-10 ft up. When a small hummingbird appears. Apparently juv., or [[female symbol]] [[underlined]] Lesbia [[/underlined]]! Certainly [[underlined]] not Haplophaedea [[/underlined]] or [[underlined]] Enocnemes. And this hummingbird definitely Swoops at the Laf [[/underlined]] Silent. Laf doesn't move. Hummingbird flies away. (Note. My identification of the Laf is [[underlined]] quite [[/underlined]] definite.)

[[footnote 4]] A few seconds later hear Humer R in scrub 100 yds away.
[[footnote 5]] So Humer and Laf certainly are in a position to come into "contact" here (too). But probably their territories are not overlapping.

[[footnote 6]] There does seem to be a [[underlined]] fantastic [[/underlined]] amount of inter specific hostility among the nectarivorous birds of this region!!!

[[footnote 7]] 9:04 a.m. A few yards further on. See Blue-wing hummingbird perched 8 ft up edge AS and pasture. Silent and alone. (This [[underlined]] certainly [[/underlined]] is the species seen disputing with Black Diglossa(s) at Guasca rome darpago.) [[underlined]] Very [[/underlined] large. Generally dark green. Only a very small white spot behind eye. Some blue gloss or green of back. Wings brownish black with strong blue gloss on "shoulder" and secondary region.

Leaving 9:15 a.m. Everything dead quiet.
