Mixed Diglossini, Feb. 12, 1964, III
[[circled]] 20 [[/circled]]

[[margin]] Cy [[/margin]]
continues alone. Then shuts up. A few minutes later, Cy sings again. Then shuts up.

Dawn chorus in general much quieter now 6:27 a.m.

[[margin]] Gen [[/margin]] As far as overlapping of song is concerned, the situation here today seems to be intermediate between the Quito region and the mountain above Palea - rather than particularly like the latter.

[[margin]] Cy Brun Uni[[/margin]]
Cy and Brun alternate a few phrases. Then complete overlap between the two. Again complete overlap. Then Cy sings alone. Shuts up. Uni sings a brief phrase. Then Cy sings. Shuts up. Uni sings a phrase. Shuts up. Cy sings a phrase. Shuts up. Then the 2 birds continue alternating for some time, with only slight overlaps [[underlined]] Actually, Uni seems to shut up when it hears, presumably as a reaction to, the Cy beginning to sing [[underlined]]. Then Uni shuts up.

[[margin]] Cy [[/margin]] There seem to be 2 Cys singing here this morning. Cys must be in breeding condition, I think.

[[margin]] Cy Brun [[/margin]] 6:38. Some overlap, then some alternation, of songs between Cy and Brun ^[[three checkmarks above Brun]].

Going to area where saw single "Coer" yesterday.

[[margin]] Brun Cy Uni [[/margin]]
NOTE: Although the scarcity of Brun songs may be one of the reasons that song overlaps are comparatively rare today, it cannot be the only reason. Viz the fact that Cy and Uni are not overlapping frequently. In this connection, it is probably significant that Uni is singing less frequently than yesterday.

[[margin]] Cy [[/margin]] In any case, the Cys here seem to be as much members of the D-C couples as any other species - if there is such a complex here.

No sign of "Coer" when I arrive at fruit tree

Cy still singing alone. Then shuts up. [[underlined]] Then what sounds like [[underlined]]
