Mixed Diglossini, Apr. 2, 1963, III
[[circled]] 6 [[/circled]]

are Bruns. Not close together. Both still uttering "Trit"s. Remaining in scrub. No [[?]] to go into Eucalyptus.

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]]
Yes! Both are definitely Bruns. Now close together again. Still uttering "Trit"s, but only accasionally. Both feeding largely or exclusively on tubular red flowers (all one species) 6:35.

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]]
I think that the 2 Bruns must be mates. Explains why there is no song (i.e. advertizing song). If one of them did utter advertizing songs earlier, they were presumably shoved out by the wrens.

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]]
The 2 birds stick pretty close together. But neither sings even when they are 30 or 40 ft apart.

[[margin]] CC [[/margin]]
6:42. One or both Bruns fly(ies) up into Eucalyptus trees near where presumed CC sang earlier this morning.

[[margin]] CC [[/margin]]
Incidentally, all the presumed CC phrases heard this morning were relatively slow and deliberate, like presumed CC phrases heard early yesterday in other area. Not hummed like CC song heard later yesterday.

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]]
Both Bruns back into low scrub 6:45. Then one back into tree. the back into scrub. Both birds now(6:50) alternating between trees and scrub. Seldom more than 20 ft above ground in trees. Don't feed on trees.

[[margin]] CC Brun [[/margin]]
It is remarkable that, although this area is right on the edge of where more CC's were seen yesterday, I have seen no CC's near the Bruns. or in the birches the Bruns frequent. this morning.

[[margin]] Brun CC [[/margin]]
Now one of the Bruns is in tree exactly or about exactly where presumed CC song earlier this morning. Could the slow triplet song be uttered by the Bruns, while the CC's utter only the fast triplet song???????

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]]
One of the reasons these Bruns are singing so little now is presumably that there are no other Bruns in the neighborhood.

The altitude here is exactly 10,690 ft
