Mixed Diglossini, Feb. 5, 1964, VII [[circled]] 60 [[/circled]]

[[margin]] [[underlined]] carbonaria [[/underlined]] [[/margin]] Does this population do Belly fluffing more frequently than any other population of [[underlined]] carbonaria [[/underlined]] sp. or [[underlined]] superspecies [[/underlined]] I have watched???

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]] 5:25. Listening to one of the AA's singing by itself. In ordinary unritualized singing posture. Most songs [[underlined]] pure "Zeewee"'s [[/underlined]]. Only occasionally is there a subterminal accelerated fluctuating bit which is a real twitter in the ordinary everyday sense of the word.

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]] 5:30. One Brun (possibly AA) lands in eucalypt about 6 ft from another. Immediately goes into extreme TV Posture with more or less slight BV. Wings out, spread, & [[underlined]] Q'd. [[/underlined]] Standing sideways toward other bird or with rear end pointing toward it. The other bird then makes one hop toward the displaying bird. The latter immediately flees away to a branch about 10 ft away. Relaxes. Shakes out plumage. Whole performance apparently quite silent.

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]]
A few minutes later, same 2 birds same tree. One repeatedly supplants the other. Supplanted bird always assumes BV-TV between supplants. Wings held out, spread, but [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] Q'd. Attacker apparently does not assume display postures or perform ritualized movements. Twice utters muffled R-Zaza (brief) during actual supplant.
