Mixed Diglossini, Oct. 18, 1963, III [[circled]] 3 [[/circled]] exactly how much BV there was. Probably not much Silent. Little or no belly fluffing [[image - pencil drawing of bird]] [[margin]] Carbo [[/margin]] [[male symbol]] lands on high perch about 5 ft from [[female symbol]]. Silent. She flies to him and lands a couple of inches away. Immediately assumes TV, BL posture as before. But this time with wings out horizontally. Almost certainly Q'd very briefly, slightly, and rapidly. [[male symbol]] responded to [[female symbol]] landing by uttering long [[underlined]] R [[/underlined]] - Zaza. [[female symbol]] stops displaying. Both birds fly away. This was obviously a case of a sexually aroused [[female symbol]] approaching a non-sexually aroused [[male symbol]]. [[male symbol]]'s lack of high cop. drive revealed by the fact that he uttered R instead of twitter (in addition to his lack of overt copulatory movements). Both birds back briefly 6:40. Presumably nest-building. Then gone again. [[margin]] Carbo [[/margin]] Lack of belly fluffing by [[female symbol]] during first TV-BL pattern may have been an indication that she is not hostile to [[male symbol]]. I don't know whether she had any belly fluffing during TV-BL-Q performance; but it couldn't have been very extreme if she did. One Carbo back nest-building 6:42. Silent. Gone again. Both Carbos in Eucalypt. One feeding on Eucalypt flowers at least 30 ft above ground 6:58 Pair back in hedge. [[female symbol]] carrying n.m. [[male symbol]] lands on perch
