Mixed Diglossini, Oct 29, 1963, III
[[circled]] 37 [[/circled]]

[] Carbo [] chase in bush. Quite prolonged (5 sec?) but within a small radius. Largely aerial, but possibly bird(s) perch momentarily once or twice. All the time, one bird was sort of hovering over the back of the other. This looked very much like an unsuccessful copulation attempt! Then both birds fly away.

If this was a cop attempt, there was certainly no pre-cop display [[male symbol]] now singing. "Tazee" songs in tree 7:05.

[] Carbo [] Pair back feeding in scrub. 1 R-Zaza on landing. Otherwise silent. [[Female symbol]] flies away. [[Male symbol]] follows her so swiftly it is almost a "Pounce", but still silent.

Both B's back 7:17. Land about 10 ft apart. Both definitely utter R-Zaza patterns on landing.

[] Carbo [] Then, suddenly, there are 3 Carbos around. Lots of chasing . back and forth. Then the intruder flies off.

A second later, I see the B [[male symbol]] sitting on exposed perch, shaking out quivering wings as if shaking off rain drops (do the birds get wet while flitting thru the bushes?). Then flies up to Eucalypt to sing as usual.

[] Carbo [] 7:25 2 Carbos in usual B area. Perched in low bush, about 5 ft apart. Both standing, with head fairly low, about on level of back. No forward stretching of neck. No trace St. Both with belly moderately fluffed. Both performing extreme TV's with metronome like regularity. Extremely lateral. Also V-D. Position at end. of TF upbeats quite TV. Little or nothing in the way of WF's. No holding out or quivering of wings. Apparently silent.
