Mixed Diglossini, Oct. 29, 1963, IV [[circled]] 38 [[/circled]] [] Carbo [] This looked very ritualized. Possibly or probably hostile. Could it have been provoked by a nearby pair of wrens??? In any case, during the performance one of the Carbos supplanted the other twice. Redirection???? [] Carbo [] Both Carbos fly away. A few seconds later, I hear "Tazee" type song from Eucalypt, usual B area. ADDITION: During the extreme TF performances described immediately above, both birds were also pivoting their heads and bodies in correlation with the TF's. Head & body going far to one side as the tail went far to the other side. The feet were not moved. 7:40 Both B's feeding silently in scrub. Then gone. Leaving B area 7:50. Everything dull now. [] CC [] No sign of CC in A Carbo area. See one A briefly Utters "Seeet" Notes. Leaving 8:00 am. It seems that the sexual behavior of the B Carbos is developing, bit by bit. The [[male symbol]] seems ready for successful copulations, but the female does not. [] Carbo [] Incidentally, the way the [[male symbol]] & [[female symbol]] of this pair stayed together, without much R-Zaza-ing, or Pouncing, or TV-ing may be further evidence that the TV patterns are primarily hostile. This afternoon worked just above Unduavi. SEE TODAY'S NOTES ON GENERAL MIXED FLOCKS. [] General [] I am beginning to get a general idea of the inter-specific relations between Diglossini near Unduavi. If I am correct, the situation is rather surprising. The species are very well segregated geographically and/or ecologically.
