Mixed Diglossini, I

November 2, 1963
La Paz

Going to work in lower garden area (Obrajes). Arrive 5:29. Clear.

Dawn Chorus quite strong. Does not include Diglossini.

Arrive B Carbo area 5:35.

Hear first diglossine song 5:42. A few "Ta zee" type phrases coming from general direction of A Carbos and CC. Then again. More phrases as before.

[[margin]] Carbo [[/margin]] This song seems to be uttered by one of the B Carbos. Bush in the same area in which it sang first the last time I was hear. Long phrases "Ta zee ta zee ta zee" with or without terminal twitter.

[[margin]] Carbo? [[/margin]] This bird is answered by another, uttering similar phrases, only 20-30 ft away. The 2 birds uttering their phrases in perfect alternation. No overlap. [[male symbol]] and [[female symbol]] B Carbo duetting with one another???

Then 1 bird shuts up. The other (the one who began singing first) continues. Same phrases 5:50. Singing from different sites in same clump of bushes. Always hidden. Never exposed. About 2-4 ft above ground.

Singing from ordinary pre-locomotory postures. Lots of TF's.

[[margin]] CC? Carbo [[/margin]] Then hear a few more rapid & metallic, thinner "Tazee tazee tazee" & "Tazee ta zee ta zee ta zee" phrases coming from willow. Almost certainly CC. At first alternate with B Carbo phrases. Then some apparently overlap. Then presumed CC shuts up.

[[margin]] CC? Carbo [[/margin]] In connection with this, it should be noted that the presumed CC and the Carbo were quite far apart, and almost certainly quite out of
