like a "song", but I don't think it is really the functional equivalent of the songs of most other passerines. But I must say that I have never heard anything else which might be a real song. (It would be nice, of course, if this highly gregarious species with comparatively plain plumage should turn out to have degenerate display behavior - just like the Spice Finch - see also Shutch.)

The Golden-masks may also utter accelerated series of CN's when they fly off etc; but these are accelerated much less, i.e. they are not integrated into a real trill.

Both species have the unusual tanager TF's and WF's, usually synchronized with CN's in the usual way.

I have once or twice seen Plains do a G toward other birds (including a Palm Tanager) during a dispute over a Cecropia fruit.

In general, however, they don't get involved in much disputing over food.

I have seen one or two aerial rough-and-tumble fights (without being able to see what provoked them, or what followed them). Accompanied by loud & irregular series of harsh, hoarse, notes, presumably some form of HAC.

A [[male symbol]] Golden Mask came to the tree just above the aviary and uttered a lot of sounds in about 2 minutes before flying off again.
