We presumed ♂ Golden-mask began vocalizing at 6:18 a.m. "Tuk tuk tuk tuk [[repeated wavy line]]" Repeated almost without pause. The same as yesterday - except that the R's began abruptly. The number of "introductory" Tuk notes quite variable. The bird was still apparently solitary, flying from perch to perch, when he began vocalizing. But by 6:37 he seemed to have been joined by another bird. After this, he continued vocalizing as before, but uttered R's (at least) much less frequently.

Are there Tuk Notes SHN's?

Later in the morning, I came across a pair of Golden-masks which may have been the same pair. One of the birds uttered both "Tuk", & R when the 2 birds flew fairly close together. Then only "Tuk's" when the two birds fed and flew from perch to perch together.

All this would suggest that the Rattles of this species are not homologous with the Rattles of Chlorospingus, Ramphocelus, Saltator, etc.
