Arrive island colony blind 4:35. Cloudy. Moderate T[[degree sign]] Strong N.W. wind. Takes me a long time to get in blind, upsetting birds.

Last two days have been bad storm. Rain. Almost hurricane wind. Indications that some gulls, nesting somewhere in March have been much discouraged.

All near birds back 4:42,except for one, whose nest is covered with sparse, damp vegetation. Eggs lost & displ. n.b.?

Gulls most inactive. No non-incubating birds, as far as I can see. At least rare.

Now I see one unmated male or loosely nested pair.

Minor panic 4:52. Breaks up fairly rapidly.

Very dull indeed!

[] !!! [] Gull doing swoop-hover patterns with [[duill?]] variant of CC, almost approaching "lueeeeee" note. (This "lueeeee" in case I haven't mentioned it before, is relatively rare, very high intensity, and one of the "attack" calls.)

Aerial LCN can be transcribed as "heeow".

[] !! [] Early Long call notes (on ground) can be transcribed as"hah" or "how". Later descend to "kh" or "kuh."

[] *1 ✓ [] Female relieves male. Male U-H-F-U. Female U-HF-Cpr-U-T-U. Male flies off, then female does too. She is obviously very shy (the bird who deserted last time). One of the birds comes back immed. It is the male.

[] *2 ✓ [] Same pair, female back. Male does U-T-U. Female does T-T. Male flies off. Female flies also.
