We saw the Osages there and they were without shirts; their skin burnt; and their hair stood up as if it had not been comed [sic] since they were little children. He next took us to the Kansas Indians, saying there were some good lands there that we might select for our home.  The Kansas Indians made us a seat and asked us the object of our visit, as we supposed they had been told what we were there for, and asked us if we wanted to buy some of their land. We looked

it over and found none that we wanted as it was rough and stony, and [[strikeout]]und[[strikeout]] we told him so.

He then proposed to us that we should go south and look at another piece that was better.  We told him we had travelled from the line to the Western border and we did not wish to go farther.  He went south and in a few days returned and told us to make a selection of one of the three tracts, and the president would give it to us in exchange for our reserves on the [[secbrara??]].

We replied, "Your words to us at first, from the great Father, seemed fair.  He would
