his work he combined rich imagination with exquisite refinement of proportion and detail. He was in every sense an artist. A modest man, he quietly made a significant contribution to the beauty in this country. His taste and judgment were at the disposal of this Commission for more than eleven years. We of the National Collection of Fine Arts Commission desire to place on record our feeling of indebtedness to him and our sorrow in his loss.
