I have the honor to submit herewith a report upon work done during the month of January, 1883, in the Department of Birds, U. S. National Museum.

The number of bird skins received and catalogued during the month is 6 (catalogue numbers 89434 -'39), including 4 species, viz.: 1 skin of [[underline]] Daption capensis [[/underline], from the Falkland Islands (Thos. C. Craig, U.S.N.), 1 skin of [[underline]] Passerculus princeps [[/underline]] from Long Island (Wm. Dutcher), 1 skin of [[underline]] Hylocichla auduboni [[/underline]] from Utah (R. Ridgway), and 3 skins of [[underline]] Cupidonia cupide [[/underline]] from Kansas (H. W. Henshaw).

Of birds' nests or eggs, there have been received
