This Bear was a work of the Han Dynasty and since being excavated, was secured by the noted connoisseur Chen of the Wei Nsien district, Shantung. It is giled all over with fine designs of decorations worked out in details and inlaid with over ten precious stones.

Owing to its being in long contact with earth, the stones are practically all missing but one or two; and yet through this one or two one may be able to get some idea of the engraving crafts of the ancients.

Bear has been considered by the ancient Chinese as well as the Chinese today, as one of the species of ferocious animals and worn by military generals as a symbol of bravery. Good price has been paid for this. [[/blue type]]
