Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meeting held on January 26, 1981

About the Project

With the Smithsonian adding several art museums and galleries, the Board of Regents had agreed in September 1980 to a change in how art could be acquired. However, in order to authorize the Secretary of the Smithsonian to purchase works of art, existing bylaws for those museums needed revision. In January 1981, the Regents hear about the progress made to update these different sets of bylaws. Help us transcribe these minutes and learn more about the steps the Smithsonian took to address the changes needed during a period of rapid expansion.
