Edward William Nelson - Mexico, March - June 1893

About the Project

There is much we take for granted in the 21st century—but perhaps the most unacknowledged leg-up the Internet-connected world benefits from is access to wide swaths of information. But all of that data came from somewhere, or more accurately, the work of someone like Nelson. He and other exploring scientists of all disciplines helped lay groundwork for the knowledge we benefit from now. Our volunpeers can quickly search online for where these Mexican villages and volcanoes are situated and have GPS coordinates and satellite images come up; a second inquiry provides high-resolution images of the species Nelson encountered and maybe even named. Join your fellow volunpeers in vicariously joining Nelson's journey of discovery!
