Edward Alphonso Goldman - Mexico field notes, March 7 - June 24, 1893

About the Project

The early pages of this journal from Edward Goldman are filled with references to rodents—jumping rats, Sitomys (a genus which has since been renamed), and others. Though Goldman most likely didn't know this, Mexico has the largest number of distinct rodent species within its borders, more than any other country in the world, an astonishing 236 species! Goldman and Nelson's work cataloguing life across Mexico certainly contributed to this body of knowledge about Mexican animals. Help your fellow volunpeers make these notes accessible online!
