Bureau R.F. and A.L. Freedman's Village Va July 18th 1867 Lieut. W.W. Rogers A.A.A. General U.S.A Lieutenant In Compliance with request received 17th inst - Calling for the number of tenements (with number of rooms), the number of families in those occupied and the number vacant. I have the honor to state that there are, 108 tenements (190 rooms) occupied by 138 Dependent families 62 tenements (124 rooms) occupied by 65 families--Laborers & self [[employed?]] 70 tenements vacant I am Sir Very Respectfully Your Obedient Servant (Signed) H. N. Howard A.A. Surg. U.S.A and Superintendent Bureau R.F. and A.L. Freedman's Village Va July 24" 1867 Bvt. Brig. Genl. C H Howard Asst. Commr Washington D.C. General It appears that Freed people have sometimes been admitted to this village as dependents by the Superintendent. I desire respectfully to inquire if persons are, under any circumstances to be so admitted
