[[underlined]] July 22 [[/underline]] Caught 2 Perognathus & a Neotoma. Loring got 2 Neotomas. Lynxes took the bate from our traps & tracked all along the road. Started early & followed up Blacksmiths Fork to head of cañon, about 5 miles, then turned to the north and climbed over long slopes up & up, then down to another branch of Blacksmiths Fork, then over another ridge & down to another little stream that was nearly dry and camped. We are probably still 10 miles S.W. of Laketown. Should think our altitude was about 9000. 
In coming up the cañon we saw Tamias dorsalis & lots of S. armatus & 5 Arctomys & 3 Tamias [[strikethrough]] cl [[/strikethrough]] castanurus. Loring killed an Arctomys & 2 castanurus. Tamias minimus was common most of the way & we killed what we wanted. Shot 8 Dendragapus The young are about half grown. We auxed most of them. We each killed a Pine Squirrel Saw Bear signs. Some other fellows saw a Bear about a mile from our camp. Killed some new birds. Set a few traps. Made skins. Hunted a little. Rained a little in P.M. Sheep have eaten up the country.
