Sir:
In obedience to instructions given me by the late Major Robert Kennicott, previous to his death, I assumed command of this expedition, after his decease, and have the honor to submit the following report of the result of the Russian American Telegraph Exploring Expedition.

  Accompanying this, is my report of the death of Major Kennicott, and also a letter written by him, addressed to yourself.

  After the arrival of the Co's Bank "Golden Gate", in September last, the Steamer "Lizzie [[?Horner]]" was immediately launched and taken into a small bay back of this Port to have the necessary work completed.  Mr. Greene the Engineer in charge, discovered that one of the most essential pipes of the machinery had been left on board the Company's [[Bark?]] "Clara Bell," and this oversight caused some little delay.

  Mr. Hipanoff, the Chief Factor of the Russian ^[[(201]] American Fur Company in this country, placed at the disposal of Mr. Greene, the machinist of the Fort, and soon a new pipe was constructed.  While the work on the steamer was progressing, the
