Western Union Telegraph Expedition - Reports of William H. Ennis, 1866 and 1867

About the Project

William H. Ennis found himself as the man updating headquarters shortly after the death of the head of the Western Union Telegraph Expedition’s Science Corps, Robert Kennicott. This series of three reports brings to life the vast and barren lands of Alaska, and the various tribes that he and the crew encountered. The mission, of course, did not go without trouble, extreme weather such as gales, and snowstorms continually challenged the crew. Join us in transcribing Ennis’s reports and see how the crew to adapted to the “severity of the Northern Climate.” Start transcribing today and learn how Ennis and the crew made it through with the assistance of friendly locals.
