This worthy gentleman did not live long to fulfil his kind promises, having died of heart disease, shortly after the departure of the Major from Nulato. Mr. Denison, the Quartermaster of the Expedition, who was stationed at Unalaklit buying such goods as the necessities of the expedition required, purchased everything necessary for myself and party, and in the early part of November [[1.5.?]] I found myself ready to start as soon as the ice would permit.
