Port on the Unalakhleet river, a distance of sixty miles from this point, in a N. N. E. direction.  At this point a winter road via the Unalakhleet River and the [[?Pereval]] (undulating Swamp) commences, which leads to the Koikhpak River in from six to seven days travelling with good roads.  Before leaving this point, several General Orders were issued, the most important being the appointment of certain members of the Expedition to the rank of 2 Lieut. and another assigning myself to the dommand of the Norton Bay and Grantley Harbor Division of the Exploration.  My command to consist of the following gentlemen, viz: Messrs O. de Bendenlebew, Chappel and Cotler, with the two Russian [[?Talipk ?]], Interpreter, and V. Housan.  A copy of these orders [[?Isubruit]] with this.  It was the intention of Maj. Kennicott for myselft and party to proceed ^[[10]]to Grantley Harbor in Skinboats, and return by the first ice, while himself with the remainder of the party would penetrate in the direction of [[?Nulato]], the Northermost part of the Russian Company on the Koikhpak river.
