 In my report in December last, I based all information regarding the country from Sound Golovine to Grantley on the authority of Indians, and discerned that their representation for veracity was somewhat doubtful. My remarks on the Spring expedition through that country from Nulato via Koyukuk to Behrings Straits.
  During the month of December, and a small part of January 66 Messers Ketchum and Dyer were at work on the road, transporting provisions from Ulukak to a point called Ivans Barabara[[?]], a two days journey from the former place. These provisions had been pushed up from Unalukhlit[[?]] by order of Major Kennicott, who was making every ex[[?]] to have abundance of supplies at Nulato. While Messers Ketchum & Dyer were working at this end, two Russians and one Indian with a sled each, were transporting provisions from Ivans Barabara to H[[?]] on the Kvikhpuk[[/]] River, two days from Nulato. In this manner the members of the Expedition were employing their time during the winter months and the obstacles under which the Major labored for want of dogs & dogfeed cannot be realized by anyone but those who were engaged on this work.
