gentlemen accomplished the trip from Nulato to this point in fifteen days.  The little steamer is entirely unfit for use on the Kvikhpak, sea-storms, Gales and strong currents, would render it unsafe to take her up;  and besides she is at present in a condition that needs many repairs. Should she be refitted here, I would suggest that she be taken to Port Clarence to be used in towing poles down the rivers and lakes in the interior.  I would call your attention to the payment of certain Indians whom I have employed in our service.  One of these men, who left his hunting grounds, when Reindeer were abundant to act as a guide for Messrs Dyer & Cotter, I promised should be paid by yourself.  This man can be made a valuable man for company's service, as he has much influence among the different tribes, and is a man of much intelligence.
