your attention to the uniform kindness of Mr. Stipanoff, the Chief Factor. In every instance he has exerted his utmost to aid this expedition, and the members of it will always remember him with feelings of pleasure. Also the Factor at the Post of Unalkhlit has proved his desire to see the expedition successfully carried out.

In conclusion I would state, that all the members of this expedition, with but few exceptions, fully understood travelling, camping, dog-driving, and in fact everything connected with Northern voyaging. All understood Russian and the Indian languages sufficiently well to be understood, [[marginalia]] (10) [[/marginalia]] and all are thoroughly acquainted with the different tribes. Their knowledge of the country, habits of the Indians, the knack of trading, and many other such accomplishments, render them fit persons for company's service.

Our knowledge has not been gained by quietly sitting down and looking on, but by hard work in the cold blasty months of winter, on the road.

Trusting that what we have accomplished may meet your approval, and that any errors committed [[marginalia]] (20) [[/marginalia]] will be attributed to the head and not the heart,

I remain, Sir, very respectfully
Your Obt'dt Servant.
