Sir:

I have the honor herewith to submit the following detailed report of this Division, during the interval of the departure, and arrival of the Company's Vessels.

On the 2nd day of October 1866 the day after the departure of the Nightingale, I dispatched the Steamer Wilder and the greater portion of the men to Unalachleet, the former in transporting provisions and material, and the latter to construct winter quarters at that point.  I myself took passage on the Steamer to superintend the building of quarters, the landing of provisions &c.  Owing to the small capacity of the Steamer for carrying I dispatched Chappel and Adams with boats loaded the same day.  Smith with the balance of men I left at St. Michaels to look after affairs there.  Upon my arrival at Unalachleet I found the river frozen to its mouth the ice having formed
