With regard to our construction request, a significant increase ($3.6 million) was allowed for the restoration and renovation of our buildings exclusive of repairs to facilities at the National Zoological Park. Progress in the Zoo Master Plan Development, however, will be limited in FY 1981 to the renovation of the Reptile House and construction of a new crocodile exhibit.

The full FY 1981 request of $1,250,000 for Quadrangle planning was originally allowed by OMB. In view of Congress's concerns regarding the project, however, the Institution has decided that it is advisable to limit the request to Congress to the $500,000 already authorized. This amount, together with trust funds set aside in FY 1979, will allow definitive plans to be prepared for Congressional review and approval. Following discussions with OMB, the remaining allowance of $750,000 has been reapplied to the Foreign Currency Program, specifically earmarked for the American Institute of Indian Studies. The $4 million request under the Special Foreign Currency Program to provide the U. S. contribution to the Moenjodaro salvage effort was not approved.
