[[underlined]]Smithsonian Delegation's Trip to China[[/underlined]]

At the invitation of the Science and Technology Association of the People's Republic of China, a delegation of 12 Smithsonian scientists and museum administrators, lead by Paul N. Perrot, Assistant Secretary for Museum Programs, visited China from November 12th through December 2nd. The invitation for this trip resulted from conversations held last May between Dr. Pei Lisheng, Vice-Chairman, Scientific and Technical Association of the People's Republic of China (STAPRC), Mrs. Wang Zheng, Deputy Director, and Under Secretary Collins. At that time a variety of potential projects were discussed, involving both the natural and the human sciences.

In selecting members of the Smithsonian delegation, an attempt was made to cover as many as possible of the major disciplines and concerns of the Institution's research bureaus and museums. The individuals chosen not only were to represent their own expertise, but also were to act as spokesmen for other Smithsonian interests. Members of the delegation were:

Paul N. Perrot, Assistant Secretary for Museum Programs
Theodore H. Reed, Director, National Zoological Park
Thomas Lawton, Director, Freer Gallery of Art
Marvin Sadik, Director, National Portrait Gallery
Martin H. Moynihan, Senior Scientist and former Director, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute
Robert M. Organ, Director, Conservation Analytical Laboratory
Donald R. Davis, Chairman, Department of Entomology, National Museum of Natural History
