Fort Pierce Bureau

The Fort Pierce Bureau is a marine science bureau involved in estuarine and environmental studies with emphasis on long-range baseline information gathering to further understanding of marine ecosystems and environmental stresses. The facilities and location, which are on the Indian River Inland Waterway approximately five miles north of Fort Pierce, Florida, are suited uniquely for the center's research aims. It is in a zoogeographical zone which possesses both tropical and temperate fauna. Habitats range from mangroves, sea grass beds, and mud flats of the Indian River lagoon to the beaches and reefs of the oceanic coast and the substrata of the offshore continental shelf.
