Smithsonian Service Center

The Service Center was acquired to permit the Institution to discontinue several other costly, scattered, and inadequate rentals, and to consolidate compatible administrative and support functions in one location for greater efficiency and economy of operation.

Principal activities the Service Center at this time include Supply Services, Plant Services, Duplicating, International Exchange Service, Museum Shops, Exhibits Central, Press distribution, Archives of American Art, Collection of Fine Arts, Portrait Gallery, Museum of Natural History, SI Archives and Libraries, and others.
