with our small party. Unless such a suitable and sufficient supply be furnished no progress can be made.
The supply of food from the Country, such as fish and game, is always extremely small and precarious. From the Russians nothing is to be expected. Whatever has been obtained from them has been grudgingly given and at exhorbitant prices. It is to be hoped that the Company can put us in a position to be independent of them another year.

But little can be hoped from the Indians, unless a plentiful supply of trading goods and [[underlined]]provisions[[/underlined]] be provided.
Good dogs are much needed - ours have been very poor - ten additional furnished by Stepanoff equally so. About half of them only fit to be used. I am in hopes to bring down some from the English Post, of a better sort, and also good specimens of Hudson Bay Sleds.

I remain Sir,
Very Respectfully,
(signed) F. E. Ketchum,
Capt. Comdg Youkon Division.
