Kutchin live on the Stewart river.

There are no Indians on the White river. These are the only Indians living on the Youkon to Fort Selkirk.

Trees of sufficient size for poles are everywhere abundant; and seem made on purpose for that use.

We arrived at Fort Youkon in four days, from Fort Selkirk drifting down stream, eating and sleeping on board the canoes.

At Fort Youkon I found Messrs Dall and Whymper, who had arrived a week previously from Nulato we were delayed here for another week in order that the Commander might finish his trading with the Indians so if anything remained he might take the responsibility of paying our Indians. For the same reason no bill was obtained of the goods as it had to be forwarded to the headquarters for approval. It will not however exceed one hundred dollars or thereabout.
