no 4. & 1644 & 1676 much have been sorely persecuted by the Virginians who endeavored throu this time to drive all the Indians beyond the borders of the state, we hear from time to time of encounters with the Indians on the Rappahanuch but there is no detail mentioned of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] our numbers or circumstances yet from time to time Local Literature has refered to the existance of Reminants of the old Indian population in the region whitch they once called our homes, So Now, after too Centures of Silence the decendants themselves, Riseing in Education and in Self-Consciousness are moved to declare our Existance in Modesty and in the friendly hope that our white neighbors will received our Declaration in the Spirit in which it is made, the State of Virginia is naturely proud of the fact that these are Reconized a number of Genuine Indian tribes. too of them liveing on State Reservations which were ceded to them by act of Legislation in Colonial times, the pamunkey & Mattaponia tribes have the Standing of Indians to this day. being reconized as tribes with an unbroken national history from the time of powatan Serval others with No Legial Standing as tribes are nevertheless Reconized as Citizen Indians, the Chicahominies, the Nansemonds and now the Rappahanocks
