from the direction of Gull Island where he now descried our signal on the bluff. At once pushing off with the boy he steared for the cove and found us as already related.

By this time we pulled alongside the wharf and Sam wanted us to go on shore to get something to eat & warm ourselves, but we would not here of it. He want to the nearest house himself however, and brought some bread and coffee. It all vanished in a moment & we could almost have cried for more. As we pushed off, Mable called out "The Owl, the Owl!" and the little dog jumped down into the boat.

We now told our own adventures, which interested the boy so much that he let his oars flat. As we passed Capt. Hanes, Burton, whose spirits were greatly revived, said to him, "Tell you father tomorrow that we are at home and dry; but you can add to console him, that we have been a little wet, cold, & hungry, thanks to the squall he sent after us." At the home pier we landed in silence except for taking leave of Jenkins with much thanks for his pains. "That's all right," he replied looking at Burton, "I owed you a good turn, and this dog here seems to think he did too."

To be continued.
