[[strikethrough]] Today [[/strikethrough]] After finding in Florence that the Rex sailing is canceled, we found here that everyone in Italy thinks Americans should go straight to France & try to sail from there. If we wait as long as we'd have to here before catching a boat - we [[strikethrough]] might [[/strikethrough]] would find that if war came we would be completely cut off from boat or sympathy - because Italy would be on Germany's side - & Gibralter [[Gibraltar]] would close. If we sail from here in 10 days (which is the earliest passage available) we would have to abandon the car here, & probably never see it again. In 2 days all cars will be prohibited on Italian roads, & Benzin shut off.
