Dec 8th

Well at last I am [[strikethrough]] do [[/strikethrough]] so happy today that my spirits defy gravity to a sky high degree, & yet it is a joy that has such [[strikethrough]] firm [[/strikethrough]] solid & logical foundations that it stands on firm ground. Usually my spirits [[strikethrough]] soar [[/strikethrough]] soar in a dangerous way and are dashed to the ground before I know it, but I am not frightened of that [[strikethrough]] tod [[/strikethrough]] this time.

Last night H & A arrived back from a freezing yacht, Hermann with a fine chamois & four frozen toes. He had it brought here for me to draw - (not the toes) [[strikethrough]] & I did [[/strikethrough]] & last night in the freezing cellar I did a good drawing! Alice & H think it is fine. It is a poor composition, & it was hard to keep from being tricky about the hair, & it is rather cut up, & hasn't much perspective in values though it has in the drawing, but it is a good study of a gems, & it looks dead.

So last night I used my mental powers & eyes in the one & only satisfying way for me, & today I used my physical powers to the same end, & the result is [[strikethrough]] emo [[/strikethrough]] emotions of the first degree, & so justified! [[strikethrough]] Today [[/strikethrough]]

I had a miserable climb - which is too complicated with troubles to relate - but we climbed too fast & too steep, & H left me, & then waited, & I was so furious that I cried when we fought - & he left again. But all those petty miseries [[strikethrough]] flew away air [[/strikethrough]] evaporated with the first few christianias in pure powder snow, & we four had one of those intoxicating unforgettable tours - with perfect snow - making the first tracks down, & all four of us skiid wonderfully. It has taken two long weeks for me to get going - [[strikethrough]] and I [[/strikethrough]] but today it all came out in the wash. We went fast, with lots of shuring, & even my bad stiff leg turned well, & I felt courageous & strong & drunk with [[strikethrough]] joy & speed [[/strikethrough]] the speed & beauty & joy of it all. H was very pleased with me, & even when I felt dead tired towards the end, it was a crazy & brave tiredness - for I wasn't even scared to
