party which was better than ever this year, though I know the food & drink is what gave me this cold. I have never gotten so many lovely Xmas presents before, & it made me really feel close to St Anton -- There were such crowds of intimate friends there, & so many presents for everyone, & such delicious bowle, & such a lovely tree, that I will never forget the fun & excitement which it has always had for the last four years. I gave the Falche's a radio -- & really their appreciation was so wonderful that I felt I should have given them more. They gave me a sweet hand [[strikethrough]] made [[/strikethrough]] knitted bed jacket, & a lovely Xmas tree & cookies which they surprised me with. to suit & fit me, & Squab a beautiful scarf & sweater, Dudley a compact, Dot a lovely Munich scarf which she treasures herself -- to say nothing of countless other presents -- though the first ones touched me so much that I felt as much loved as I am devoted to these people. As for John -- I adore seeing him. We can talk for hours on end, & I enjoy being continually reminded by his expressions & mannerisms of all the past we have had together, though it seems most incongruous in these surroundings. His friend Paine [[Payne]] is very attractive, & apparently a very well known crew man. They are both so easy & cozy & self confident & full of humour that we have a lovely time together. I am afraid John is disappointed in St Anton, because one needs more technique in this steep country than he has time to learn, & there was an awful thaw to add to miseries. Paine can ski enough to have fun, but John worries me. He is thinner & his hair is shorter, & he's overpolite, & has somehow lost that fascination, but I adore him. Paine is attractive. Taylor is nice too, & it's fun to see a few men.
