she was well enough to go to England, & that [[strikethrough]] it wo [[/strikethrough]] she would be too unhappy away from me to be operated on there, which I thought [[strikethrough]] should [[/strikethrough]] showed true Swiss animal understanding. So little Tutzing & I continued on our way - paying expensive tickets for her, & worrying about customs, & I got frantic when they told me in Dover that I would have to send her back to Calais unless I had a license which I didn't have, but thank God Spratt's rescued me with one. An extremely nice German couple who had talked all the way on the trip with me - as we could find no sleeper - were most sympathetic. They had lived in London 30 yrs - & she told me all about the Chinese Exhibit - but I never did find out their names or their job there -. Little Tutzing was brutally whisked away from me in Dover - & I arrived in London in a tizzy whizzy of excitement - foreseeing a lot that happened with amazing accuracy!

"Washington" Mar 28th

This is my 2nd day out, & already I am glad that the Davis's have taken me under their wing. I adore Admiral Stanley whom I sat next to tonight, & luckily I am going to sit next to a different navy man each night. I get on very well with the [[strikethrough]] two [[/strikethrough]] married ones, & typically, don't get on with the only two young & eligible ones. Tonight, Norman Davis said he'd never seen Stanley's fleet of navy, & Stanley said "honestly - you [[strikethrough]] talk [[/strikethrough]] here you do so much talking about the navy, cutting it down & bossing it around, & you've never even seen it!" He then offered [[strikethrough]] Norman [[/strikethrough]] Mr Davis a free flight out [[strikethrough]] & b [[/strikethrough]] to California & back, [[strikethrough]] jus [[/strikethrough]] & a big reception out there in order to see it. Someone told a story about a girl who was sitting with a navy man & kept pulling down her skirt, which was embarrassingly short. After this had gone on for awhile the man said "Its alright [[strikethrough]] mi [[/strikethrough]] young lady, liquor is my weakness." We all went up to the Captain's Quarters after dinner, & everyone was very amusing. The Captain asked Mr D.
